There is nothing quite like Gilbert and Sullivan’s unforgettable tunes and quirky lyrics. On our most recent social evening the branch played host to singers from Abbots Langley who gave us delightful renditions of favourites such as The Policeman’s Lot is Not a Happy one and Tit-Willow. The songs were drawn from the best known operas The Mikado and HMS Pinafore, and from others which may not be quite so well-known such as Ruddigore and Iolanthe. Annie Rycroft, committee member, organised the evening and participated in the performance so thanks must go to her for such hard work behind the scenes and in front of the audience. Former branch chair, Mike Peaker provided an informed and entertaining commentary which gave us a link between the songs. Add to this some first rate fish and chips and we have a formula for an excellent evening. The added bonus of course is that the evening was a sell-out which meant a very healthy sum raised of several hundred pounds for the branch.
